AIA Southern Arizona Architecture Week has commenced! This year’s theme is “Cool Design for a Hot Climate,” highlighting environmentally sensitive desert architecture of today and the past several decades.

Also, AIA Arizona hosted the 2010 Celebrate Architecture Gala this past Saturday. There was a grand total of 45 award recipients. A special edition of Just the Facts, Please will be released tomorrow sharing all of our winners.

Phoenix First Friday – Missed our Design Awards event? You can see the winners on display this Friday, October 1, 2010 from 6-9pm at Portland 38 (Unit 1A (727 E Portland Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85006). This event is free and open to the public. The winners will continue being on display in the AIA Arizona Gallery from October 4th to the 31st.

IDP 2.0 – Big changes go into effect on Oct. 1.Learn more here. Also, the third and final phase of IDP 2.0, which was originally scheduled for January 2011, will now be implemented in fall 2011. Interns and supervisors will be notified of the implementation date at least six months in advance of the launch date.

DATE CHANGE Grand Canyon Oct. Chapter Meeting – Open to all members, onFriday, October 8th the Grand Canyon Chapter will host a special presentation on the South rim of the Grand Canyon. Morgan O’Connor, Environmental Director of the Grand Canyon Railway, will talk about the innovative sustainable projects the railway and the Concessionaire of the Grand Canyon are undertaking  to tread more lightly on the earth.
