Just the Facts, Please… FEB | 4 | 2010
One of the great benefits experienced as your President-Elect in 2009 was attending the annual AIA Grassroots Conference held in Washington, D.C. At this moment, we have a contingent representing us during Grassroots 2010. Grassroots is politics for architects at the regional and national level. The week offers exceptional opportunities to compare the challenges across the regions and to hear the positions of our current and future and leadership.

The most effective experience for me as it relates to the politics of architecture was spending a day on Capitol Hill.  It was a chance to see our representatives in action. Our team armed with position papers visited the offices of six representatives. I will admit that I started the day with a bit of jaded attitude only to discover that we were consistently met with well  prepared, energetic staffers that seemed like they were looking out for the best interest of Arizona regardless of party affiliation.  That was D.C.  2009. Important Notice –
AIA Arizona sends its condolences to Executive Vice President, Tina Litteral, Hon. AIA, CAE, on the loss of her father. Tina was unable to attend Grassroots 2010 for the first time in decades.The absence of her contributions have already been noted by many leaders within AIA National. Tina’s leadership skills are derived from  her father’s great service to his community back in Illinois. To read more about his life, click here.

PIPS Meeting On February 10, 2010, as part of the 2010 Best Value Conference being held in Tempe on February 8-11, Dr. Dean Kashiwagi of ASU’s Performance Based Studies Research Group (PBSRG) has extended an invitation to the Design Community to learn more about the Performance Information Procurement System (PIPS) as it relates to the design industry. Grand Canyon Chapter Meeting – On Friday, February 12, 2010, the Grand Canyon Chapter presents Charlie Gohman, Manager, Arizona Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency Office. Mr. Gohman will present on making new and existing buildings more energy efficient. Meet at the Barking Frog restaurant in Sedona at Noon for this informative talk and lunch!
