AIA Arizona Slide Slam Competition

Earn a spot  to present  at this year’s AIA Arizona State Conference titled “Impact Your World!”

How: Submit 20 digital images that demonstrate how you as an architect or how a collection of unique architecture has had a positive or profound impact on your world. [Images to be in JPEG format in a Power Point presentation, not to exceed 15 MB]

Why: AIA is seeking to promote a varied selection of examples of how architects and architecture directly affect the world around us.

Who: 10  to 12 submissions will be shortlisted and then applicants will be required to give a 10 minute presentation to the Jury. Five  to six finalists  will be selected by the Jury to present  their presentation during the one-hour Conference Slide Slam time slot. This competition is open to AIA members, Associate Members and Affiliate Members.

When: Statement of intent to participate is due Friday, June 17, 2011 by 1:00pm MST via email to Entry deadline is Tuesday, June 28, 2011 5:00PM MST (via CD or DVD delivered to 30 N. 3rd Avenue, Ste. 200, Phoenix, AZ 85003 or email). The State Conference presentations will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on August 18, 2011.

Where: Sheraton, Wild Horse Pass

Jury: Mark Roddy, AIA; James Trahan, AIA; Patrick Panetta, AIA, Phil Swaim, AIA and Suad Mahmuljin, Assoc AIA.

So if you think you can demonstrate your IMPACT, prove it.

We are hearing that things are starting to loosen up a little bit and architects are getting busy again. If you are looking for work, be sure to have your resume’ posted on our website. It is free to members. We are hearing that firms are not necessarily posting positions, but are looking at resumes’ that are posted on our website. So if you are not there, they don’t know that you are looking for a job.


We also have a new program available to members that are seeking employment. You can post your portfolio on our website for a small fee. Contact the AIA office for more information.

Offices Closed – The AIA offices in Phoenix and Tucson will be closed for Memorial Day.

AIA Phoenix Metro Community Affairs – On Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 11:00am, join us for a discussion with City of Avondale Development Services Department. Get updates on the streamline plan review, amendments to zoning ordinances, progress on the 2030 plan. Please RSVP to Diana Smith.

State Conference & Trade Show – will be held on Thursday, August 18th at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass. If you are interested in a booth for this year’s trade show, please contact Louise Rehse at The Reference Library with your interest ASAP. The booths are on a first come first served basis and the trade show has sold out for the last few years. Note: you must be an AIA Arizona Affiliate or Reference Library member to participate.
