Each month I try to attend the monthly board meetings of the Board of Technical Registration. I have noticed that in the past several months architectural and engineering firms have had disciplinary action taken against them regarding the prompt pay law that was passed several years ago. So, I wanted to remind all of you what the current law says about paying your consultants.

21-128 C 5. Failing to pay a collaborating registered professional within seven calendar days after the registrant receives payment from a client unless specified otherwise contractually between the prime professional and the collaborating registered professional. For the purposes of this paragraph “collaborating registered professional” means a registered professional with whom the prime professional has a contract to perform professional services.

I know that Chip Shay, AIA, Board Chair will elaborate more on this in an upcoming issue of the BTR newsletter, but I wanted to remind you of this statute.

Dear Alexandra,

Greetings! I hope you had a restful holiday and are recharged for the new year. Thank you for honoring me by allowing me to serve as president of AIA Arizona in 2011.

Like many people, I like to start the new year by making a few resolutions. I have learned not to make my goals so momentous that they are overwhelming, but achievable and SMART. S (specific), M (measurable), A (attainable), R (realistic) & T (time specific).
Mine are to get my office organized, improve my skills with SketchUp and read more non-fiction books.

I would encourage you to set some goals and share them with your spouse or a close friend, so that they can provide some encouragement. And if you talk to me, tell me what your goals are and ask me how I’m doing on mine!

Joe Worrall, AIA
2011 AIA Arizona President
