Discover New Market Potentials for Your Firm

What market niches are currently “hot” or expected to grow and why?

Find out by attending “Uncharted Territory,” a seminar presented by Small Giants in conjunction with AIA, ASA and ABA.

This seminar is the compilation of several months of market research complied by three Small Giants’ professionals, specifically for the purpose of giving you enough information to determine which markets are the best strategic move for your firm. The session will begin with an overview of the primary and secondary research that was conducted by market sector and geographic region and move into a detailed discussion of “hot market” issues including: energy, infrastructure, healthcare, commercial, and tribal. This event promises to be a great networking event, while being highly informative.

May 7, 2010 – Entry fees due
June 18, 2010 – Entries due
June 23, 2010 – Late entries due

The AIA Arizona Design Awards program recognizes excellence in design, planning, and construction of projects located anywhere in the world that are designed by AIA Arizona architects registered and licensed in the State of Arizona.

The intent of the Design Awards program is to honor the highest standards of design in response to user requirements, site, context, climate, and environment.  Each entry, regardless of size or classification, is judged individually on the basis of total design merit.

Awards are given the categories of honor, merit, and citation (in order of importance).  The jury will decide the type and number of awards. Certificates will be presented to award winning AIA Arizona members in good standing, and their projects will be featured at the Celebrate Architecture Awards Presentation.

Just the Facts, Please… APR | 22 | 2010

The AIA Arizona Board of Directors has had an opportunity to build a strong relationship with the Associate Members because of the hard work of our AIA Arizona Associate Director, Leslie Tom, Assoc. AIA. However, Leslie will be leaving us this year because she has decided to expand her education and experience by enrolling in graduate school this fall. But, she is leaving the AIA Arizona Associate Members in great hands as the new Associate Director will be Suad Mahmuljin, Assoc. AIA.

Suad has been working very closely with Leslie for quite awhile and is up to the challenge of continuing the great work that the Associates are doing. Suad will continue to work with AIA Phoenix Metro Associate Director, Andrea Lucarelli, Assoc. AIA and AIA Southern Arizona’s Associate Directo, Nisha Babu, Assoc. AIA.

Leslie, we will miss you, but I know the Associate Members are in good hands with Suad, Andrea and Nisha.

Survival 101 Seminar: Applying the Building Code

Checking a design project for code compliance is not the final step, nor even a late step, in the development of a building’s design. Actually, code compliance must be an ongoing process in all phases of design, from schematic design (or earlier) through construction documents. Although each project is different from the next, there is a standard process that can be followed on every project to provide the most comprehensive application of the building code.

This presentation will present a logical and methodical approach to determine a project’s compliance with the building code at the appropriate phase of design. Additionally, to improve your understanding of the building code, this presentation will cover essential information on code language, format, and definitions.
