AIA Journal | Arizona

AIA Arizona has started a peer reviewed journal and we need your help! Love writing? Read this…

What is the AIA Journal | Arizona? The AIA Journal is a peer review journal publication issued by AIA Arizona to the AIA community and to the general public. The Journal(s) will be comprise of a formulated hypothesis about a subject of the auhor(s) choosing with respect to architecture. The topics are subject, but not limited, to the following: professional practice, architectural technology, case studies, architectural design (urban, city, art, environment) and architecture in society – the role of architects.

Why the AIA Journal | Arizona? The AIA Journal was conceived after the AIA Arizona Town Hall meeting at which there was a sense and a need for a “platform” that would allow and encourage expression, discussion and rapport within the architecture community and the greater community in general.

How will it be implemented? The author(s) of the AIA Journal will be AIA Arizona members or a team of individuals with an AIA Arizona member as a team lead. The author(s) of the journal will submit the journal for peer review. If there are comments, the journal will be returned for editing and re-submitted. After the final review, the journal will be published via the AIA Arizona website as a PDF, as well as posted on Issuu.com for further viewing. Peer reviewers will be selected by the Journal Committee. The Journal Committee will be the governing body of the Journal.

How do I get Involved? You can become a peer reviewer or a writer!
Peer reviewer – We are looking for experts in all areas of architecture, and perhaps engineering, sustainability and construction. If you are interested in reviewing articles, please fill out the Peer Review Eligibility Form.
Writer – If you enjoy writing and/or have some articles or case studies already put together and you would like to lend you talent and findings to this publication, please fill out the Journal Author Submission Form.
Topics – If you simply would like to just suggest topics, please email Suad Mahmuljin, Assoc. AIA.

Time line If you are interested in participating in the first issue of this publication being released in August 2010, please have your forms submitted to to Suad Mahmuljin, Assoc. AIA by Friday, April 9, 2010. You may submit your articles and case studies once you have filled out the Journal Author Submission Form. Articles are due April 30, 2010.

Just the Facts, Please… MAR | 4 | 2010
“The Ice Breaker” for our February AIA Arizona Board meeting followed the theme of “Politics in Architecture in Arizona.” So, the Ice Breaker for the meeting was, “What bills or legislation do we think would help save Arizona from its current financial morass?” Although there was no shortage of ideas, we realized 40 minutes later that our collective concerns would not solve the issue at this meeting, but let’s keep the dialog running.

The month of March is Eco Month. Your Committee on the Environment (COTE) is proud to roll out a program of events (one per week) that will highlight sustainability practices in the home, at work, at school and where we shop. There will be several activities, Arizona-wide, as highlighted on the AIA Arizona website. Please thank our sponsors of this event for their contributions!

The Membership Communications Committee is looking to extend the reach of our newsletter “Just the Facts,” and has offered to provide the weekly service to friends and associates outside our current circle. Contact Alexandra Evjen, at the AIA Arizona office, with names you would like added to the list.

Have a great month!
