We are happy to announce that a group of AIA Arizona Associates entered the International Interior Design Association Southwest Chapter’s Couture Competition, and won the award for Best Craftsmanship!

The competition pairs a group of interior designers, or in our case architectural interns, with a product manufacturer. AIA Arizona was paired with our Affiliate member, Sherwin Williams, and honored the Southwest Landscape with a dress made out of zero VOC paint, cheese cloth, paint chips, brads and chains. To see video of the event, click here. To see photos of the garment, click here.

If you would like to view the garment in person along with the other winners, visit Neiman Marcus at Scottsdale Fashion Square between March 4, 2010 and March 8, 2010 for their Art of Fashion month or attend their launch party the evening of March 4, 2010. The garments will be displayed on the second floor. Click here for more details.

Just the Facts, Please… FEB | 4 | 2010
One of the great benefits experienced as your President-Elect in 2009 was attending the annual AIA Grassroots Conference held in Washington, D.C. At this moment, we have a contingent representing us during Grassroots 2010. Grassroots is politics for architects at the regional and national level. The week offers exceptional opportunities to compare the challenges across the regions and to hear the positions of our current and future and leadership.

The most effective experience for me as it relates to the politics of architecture was spending a day on Capitol Hill.  It was a chance to see our representatives in action. Our team armed with position papers visited the offices of six representatives. I will admit that I started the day with a bit of jaded attitude only to discover that we were consistently met with well  prepared, energetic staffers that seemed like they were looking out for the best interest of Arizona regardless of party affiliation.  That was D.C.  2009.
